Description
Schioppettino is a variety that may not be too familiar with most drinkers, as it is rarely seen outside of its native region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and even then there are only quite small plantings.
2019 allowed Dane to produce another iteration of Brutal!!!, this time using 100% Schioppettino. It’s treated with a very gentle touch in the winery; after a light pressing it is fermented and aged in stainless steel for 12 months to retain its lifted aromatics & perfume. Dane’s focus and love for this wine is due to its complexity and being “absolutely buzzing with energy”. In the heat of Singapore, it shines when chilled lightly, helping to retain the vibrant crunchy red fruit flavours.
As with all Brutal!!! wines produced, it follows the zero/zero approach: nothing added, nothing taken away. Production is always incredibly limited, with the focus of Brutal!!! to be somewhat of an experiment for the winemakers and outside of their usual repertoire.. There is no single winery behind ‘Brutal!!!’ but a philosophy and labeling that winemakers can adhere to.
