Who : Didier Dagueneau
Where: Loire Valley, France
What: Sauvignon Blanc
One of the world’s greatest producers of the variety, that hardly needs an introduction.
In the 1980s, a young Didier Dagueneau overturned conventional family estate in Pouilly-Fumé.
A firm believer in low yields, hand harvesting, barrel ageing and applying many organic practices, he made wines built on texture, with approachability young whilst also having incredible ageing potential.
Since his passing in 2008, the estate has been continued on by his son, Louis-Benjamin.
‘Silex’ means flint, and this soil type is mostly found around St-Andelain, where the Dagueneaus are based. The flint is mixed with clay, so it’s crucial that vines are planted in places that enjoy very good drainage.
