Who: Clos Thierriere
Where: Loire Valley, France
What: 100% Chenin Blanc

Located on the northern side of Vouvray, on deep red clay with vines around 40 years old. Historically known as “Parruches”, this plot is now called “Petrichor”, in reference to the smell of nature after a rain. It is a memory of a rainy harvest, and this smell is particularly evident in this type of soil.

Clos Thierrière is a fresh estate, with 2021 being their first vintage. Twin brothers, Guillaume and Baptiste Frey, fell in love with winemaking during the pandemic under the tutelage of Vincent Carême. They purchased 12 hectares in Vernou-Sur-Brenne amongst a few neighboring natural winemakers and have produced a wonderfully successful first and second vintage of AOC Vouvray.

Petrichor is from a Parcel located on the northern slope of the commune, resting on red clay. Forty year old vines.”Petrichor”, in reference to the smell of nature after rainfall.
