Luke Lambert has set himself apart as a prominent voice of a generation redefining the Yarra Valley. Not chasing trends, Luke’s approach favours the production of pure fruited wine through the use of large format oak to retain fruit characteristics. This also drives his interest in growing on sites with cooler climates to retain freshness and elegance in his wines. The site for his Syrah comes from the south-west pocket of the Yarra Valley, one of the coolest within the region. His wines are designed to display what is possible when applying a deft touch towards winemaking.
Coming from a “10 out of 10 vintage”, in Luke’s own words, his 2017 Syrah is the perfect sum of its parts – long hangtime for the berries allowing full flavour development, his highest percentage of whole-bunch fermentation (to date) to add further complexity to the nose & palate, wild yeast fermentation and increased usage of large oak foudre to retain purity of the fruit. A master of subtlety and craft, Luke lets his wines speak for themselves.
